Fiery Path - Fire / Poison

This place is blazing hot.

Whoever named it Fiery Path wasn't joking. The place is literally burning and the redness of every burning rock greatly contributes to the sky high thermal sensation.

Leonardo feels like he's sweating off the entirety of his daily water intake. His pokémon is not doing any better, from the looks of it Looking at his metagross, he's grateful that its body is made of steel and not some other less resistant metal, otherwise it would have already melted by now.

"You hang in there, big boy. The worst is yet to come."

With a pat on the back, he prompts it to keep going.

Fiery Path - Fire / Poison

Only a couple minutes in and already they're being attacked. A bug zooms past them. It's so fast they don't even notice the slash or the liquid poison until way later, when it's back for another round. Leonardo frowns at the purple liquid. Poison has no practical effect on the metagross, but just looking at it on its body gives Leo OCD.

While he's thinking of how to clean the mess up, the metagross engages with the wild beedrill. The first two moves are easily evaded by the beedrill, and by the third the metagross realizes it must change tactics. It gives the beedrill the scariest of deadly faces. It seems to work, because the metagross' next hammer arm hits it hard.

The beedrill is pushed back by the force of the metagross' attack. It's enraged. With that same rage it unleashes a powerful outrage. The metagross pulls back, biding its time before it could return the attack with a meteor punch.

Both sides are tired now. Though sweat is only visible trickling down Leonardo's face, the stances of both pokémon have switched to favor defense.

He takes out a handkerchief to dry himself. Curse being human.

At the apparent stalemate, Leonardo finally steps in. His eyes are firmly set on the beedrill as he voices an order.

"Finish this off with hammer arm."

[break][break]

The metagross rushes at the beedrill, but its attack never lands. The latter seems to have evaluated its choices and reconsidered. Just as planned. The beedrill flees the battle.

Capture attempt. End of thread.

They tried using Leonardo's handkerchief first. As demonstrated by the now disintegrating piece of cloth, it wasn't the brightest idea.

"Damn, that poison really is strong,"

he had casually said as he threw it to the floor before it could get to his fingers.

Now, they are using the contents of one of three bottles of water that Leonardo brought for their entire trip. Their very last option. Leonardo presses the center of the bottle to allow a good splash of water to pour over the metagross' arm. Thankfully, the poison isn't viscous and it easily drips down its body and onto the floor, where it slowly begins to evaporate.

"Even as gas it's purple,"

he points out, disgusted.

Before they get a chance to rest, a new opponent appears. In the flashiest of entrances possible, too. The monferno does a flip that sends flickering flames dancing around it. The Flame Wheel barely misses him.

Taking advantage of the proximity, Leonardo's metagross makes a move on their assailant. Its Meteor Punch manages to bruise one of the monferno's feet.

Not waiting another moment to take the center stage back, metagross metagross releases a pink ball of energy that strikes the monferno right in, well, its entire body. A big Psychic ball for an equally big pokémon.

Then, against all odds, the monferno takes a moment to lie down on its side and close its eyes. Is it... Slacking Off?

"Feeling in a pinch yet?"

Leonardo taunts in an attempt to get the monferno back up.

It works. The monferno rushes in with a Mach Punch that, to its merit, connects against the metagross' face. Unfortunately, it also gives the metagross the opening to retaliate with a Bullet Punch, promptly followed by another Meteor Punch oddly mixed in with a Flame Wheel, the monferno's last move before falling to the ground in exhaustion.

Leonardo tosses a pokéball at the fallen pokémon.
